#VMworld 2018 Europe: Let’s get started ?! Focus on the network and win 1.000.000$

It’s November; it’s VMworld again and it seems that the sun is definitely celebrating #VMworld with us.  As every year in Barcelona, Sunday evening’s event kicked off #VMworld: #vRockstar

(If you are here because you wanted to win 1.000.000$… good luck!)

It has been a pleasure to meet so many vGeeks out there and I am very proud to be part of the team that has sponsored this event among others: comdivision.

(They knew which music needs to be played: Fuerte NSX on Spotify)

The evening went by far too quick and it’s time to get technical. Within the VMware world it is important to remain focussed. The ecosystem is amazingly growing in all kind of areas:

  • Hybrid (we have heard that for a while) Cloud
  • Edge-Computing (Computing moves closer too the customer’s site – sounds familiar right?!)
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • End-User Computing
  • Public Cloud

No matter what we are doing and where we need to focus – there is this one connecting element for all of VMware’s technology.

The network.

In the end the network will connect all the dots. There is a lot of technology to understand all bundled under the name

VMware NSX

I have done NSX(-v) for the last couple of years and love the technology. Since the industry is evolving and the product NSX gets enhanced a lot I will try to get to the next level. Personally I have decided that NSX-T and NSX SD-WAN (which has been acquired from Velocloud).

Being agile and secure in a multi-cloud environment will be the future – That’s where NSX-T comes joins the game. Connecting Edges (or customers on-prem sites :P) with remotely located capacity requires WAN optimization. And take a guess that’s where we will need something like NSX-SD-WAN.

How to get there? I will use this week in Barcelona to hear to the sessions and talk to as many experts as possible. What am I up to to during this week?

The most of time I will most probably hand around in the VMvillage at the VMTNbooth or blogger table. The best place to meet other experts and have great and fun chats. If you want to meet up – drop me a message on Twitter!

Monday

VCI-Day (Yeah I am still doing the ‘training’ stuff) with a great presentation of VMware’s CTO Ray O’Farrel about VMware’s vision – and some fancy quantum computer stuff …. (That was like schrödingers cat: I have understood and not understood quantum computers at the same time).

NSX-T Technical workshop

Breakout Session by Yves Sandford and Wade Holmes. I have talked a lot about Cloud Provider Pod in previous blog posts. If you want to know more. Check out the breakout session: VMware Cloud Provider Pod [HYP1499BE]

Tuesday

After the early bird #vBreakfast -> Come and meet the grumpy waiter :P. If you don’t know what I mean. Register here and learn the story!!! Thanks Runecast for sponsoring and Abdullah for doing the organization since Fred Hofer and Andreas Lesslhumer are not able to do it this year.

Brian Madden is doing it again. As in Las Vegas he organizes an EUC Forum on Tuesday evening with beer, presentations and fun. I will do a short presentation on Windows 10 in VDI, my friend and colleague Jens Hennig will do a presentation on Workspace One among some others.

If you have plans for Tuesday evening 6PM -> skip them, register here and join us :)

Wednesday

TBD

Thursday

I missed the event on Thursday morning in las Vegas. I will not miss it again. Check out the session Designing for the Unexpected: Delivering IT on a Boat with VMware Horizon [VIN2650BE]  where Mark Brookfield and Katarina Wagnerova will talk about doing stuff on a boat…

You don’t wanna miss that, do you!?

Enjoy #VMworld 2018 and I am really looking forward to meet old and new friends!
