.@lenzker visits a vendor/booth: #Introduction

One thing I really enjoy during tech-conferences is visiting Partners at their booth. Having a chance to know more about companies that are responsible for the whole virtualization/cloud ecosystem is quiet interesting for me. What problem do they solve and how can they demonstrate/transfer the solution and the knowledge in a short amount of time plays an important role for me (and I guess for many other attendees as well).

I would assume all of us had good and bad experiences at specific booths depend on expectations one had.

I defined multiple criteria to evaluate a personal outcome

See a summary of all ‘lenzker visit’ posts right here.

#VMworld 2016 Barcelona in 5 minutes (Video): Personal Insights

VMworld 2016 in Barcelona. Once again it was quite a successful event for me. I had the chance and luck to extend my knowledge by chatting, discussing (and drinking) with and from all those great people during the conference.

The announcements about VMware’s current and future products were impressive & satisfying for me personally. The powerful public-cloud cooperation with AWS will buy VMware enough time to establish NSX as a key-element within the whole private-, hybrid- and public-cloud field.

For years it is the first time I am really confident that VMware is strategically on the right track.

Once again I created a short video out of the impressions I made. Since I have realized that my filming material was quiet similar to my VMworld Barcelona (& Las Vegas) video from last year I tried to be a little bit more creative with the cutting ;-)

#VMworld Europe 2016: New Products and Product updates (including vSphere 6.5 / vSAN 6.5)

[Update] During the conference I added further information and links to the specific new features, etc.

I am honest right now. I was a little disappointed when I attended the VMworld in the US from an announcement perspective. The whole situation changes a few months later during #VMworld EU in Barcelona. The ‘VMware announcement season was opened by the interesting (and maybe unexpected) deep partnership with Amazon’s AWS.

During the General Session VMware did not stop with their announcements and Pat Gelsinger talked among other about new products within the VMware portfolio:

  • vSphere
  • vSAN
  • vRealize Automation
  • vRealize Log insight
  • Site Recovery Manager
  • vRealize Operations

For sure the announcement of vSphere 6.5 is the most interesting one since we were quiet disappointed with the 6.0 release and the announcement feature are removing some of the constraints we had so far in architecting our environments.

#VMworld 2016: Las Vegas in 251 Seconds (video) and some personal insights

I started in 2015 to create a short video summary of the Barcelona conference. Since more than 300 people watched the video, I thought: Let’s do it again.

Some personal experiences during the conference (not really technically related – you find the technical related articles here (product updates) and here (IMO on VMware’s strategy):

Once again VMworld was a great event and experience. Las Vegas is a extra-ordinary city. Even though not everyone favours Sin City for this tech event, it is very overwhelming (and to be honest… the lights, the buildings, the crazy people, the shows, the gambling…

I don’t like it…………………I LOVE IT!!!!

IMO: #VMworld US 2016: My Summary (On the new products and strategy)

It’s been a few days since VMworld is over and it took me a while to internally process the input I gathered through sessions, discussions are thinking/sleeping/gambling about them.

VMworld2

After the first 2 days, many of the articles & comments about  the general sessions at VMworld have been really harsch.  And to be honest, the technological guy inside of me absolutely agrees. No announcements about the next vSphere release. The new features and updates presented on the big stage were only useful for specific customer or user-groups .

  • vSphere integrated containers for developers
  • NSX enhancements for everyone ;-)
  • Horizon and Airwatch within the EUC field

All of the announcements and presentations were solid and sense-making, but most of the people in the room were missing the great thing, this big-bang feature, the vMotion moment that made most of us curious to learn more about VMware’s technology and products.

#VMworld US 2016: New Products and Product Updates

During (and around) VMworld 2016 VMware has lifted many of their products to a new level to enable their customer a better and more agile software-defined datacenter than ever (wow, that sounded a lot like a marketing term. Therefore, back to facts).

The following post summarize the products and some of its enhancements that have been announced or even released so far.

During day 1 of VMworld the .next version of vSphere hasn’t been released. Once this is done the article gets extended. I am still hoping for any new here.

Lets introduce #VMworld bands: Fall Out Boy and Capital Cities

When this years #VMworld party band was announced it seemed that only a few within the social network were as excited as I was:

Capital Cities & Fall Out Boy

falloutboy

To be honest the music and sound of Capital Cities is something I am not too familiar with. But especially within Germany we know them because of this great Vodafone commercial spot  (well… I am kind of a romantic guy).

Why #VMworld (2016 US edition)

When I started blogging I would have never believed that I would say this. This is a sponsored post. No no, I am not making money by writing this, but I was gifted with a VMworld blogger pass for Las Vegas. I’m really grateful for this opportunity and I can assure that this post would have been exactly the same if I didn’t received the ticket.

People knowing me better (and understanding what I am actually doing) know that I am very excited going to #VMworld. With the following post I try to give you some reasons why I love it & why VMworld is a great event and foundation to develop yourself a little further (it’s all about personal development, isn’t it?!)

If it’s your first time visiting VMware’s US event I think you will be able to extract some useful information to gain a maximum benefit out of it.

#VMworld 2015 Barcelona in 187 seconds: A video for the memories

VMworld 2015 is over and I still haven’t processed all the experiences, information, talks. Nevertheless I have processed all of the small videoclips I made during #VMworld with my iPhone.

Some people might know that I always like to create small videos (you find them on youtube as well) of the awesome trips, travels and journeys I am on. It is great to have a short summary of some experiences a few years later and therefore I did the same with the VMworld material I created during the last days.

I hope you enjoy it and hope to see a lot of the guys I met during this VMworld next year again (in Las Vegas & Barcelona).

Welcome to vLenzker – Welcome to #VMworld Barcelona 2015

Hello World

This is the first article on my new VMware and virtualization related blog vLenzker. In the last years I blogged exclusively with Mathias Ewald on vxpertise.net. After many hacks on our blog (and the loss of multiple articles) I decided to start again from scratch and use my traditional nickname as the name for my blog.

The topics and content will remain pretty much the same. I will try to explain problems, facts, solutions I observe during my daily doings as an independent VMware consultant and instructor. Anyway my first blog post will be a non-technical related one. VMworld Barcelona is just around the corner and I want to give some advice for those of you who might visit this brilliant city and event for the first time.
